Owen James Burke grew up on, in, and around Long Island Sound, where he worked on fishing boats and spent any free time he had aboard his fishing skiff.
A co-founder of Wirecutter and former Atlantic partner site and ocean-loving blog The Scuttlefish, he has searched for waves and guided surfers and fishermen from Morocco and Myanmar to Fiji and New Zealand.
He currently resides in New York City, freelance-writing and fleeing at every chance he gets.
